Once a month, I get to go to Salida for work. Despite the long drive and the typically jam-packed day of seeing patients, I say I get to go there because I can usually find some place to cram in a mini adventure...be it a cancelled appointment, lunch break, or strategically grouped patients to orchestrate an early-out. And today, I got everything done and all appointments seen in record time. Thus, my appointment with adventure began :)
I ran down to the river and got to do the first section of the Fibark Downriver Classic, which I hope to compete in this summer- Salida to Swinging Bridge. Water levels were LOW....I had to work pretty hard to imagine what it would look like in the summer when I come to compete. But I got to have some fun on some rapids for the first time in far too long. Bear Creek Rapid was still fun even though it was only a cub today.
It was definitely a winter paddle as it was cold and there was ice on the banks in areas, but the nostalgia of being back on the river kept me warmer than I could have stayed normally. Thanks, Jennifer for taking me! Despite the low levels, it was a hoot!

Before leaving town, I dropped into Ploughboy for the first time. Ploughboy is a grocery store that only sells groceries that are made or grown within a certain distance from the store. And the place is awesome! They have incredible fresh foods, breads, and produce....but best of all: I found 1/2" Graham Crackers!!! They are fantastic! I can't wait to slap some peanut butter between two and have a 1 1/2" thick graham sandwich! I love these things! Today was a good work day ;) |
