Last weekend, I got to workout with my team mate Julian and some cool new folks Katie, Jim & Sara in the Boulder area.
First we ran up the trail with gear-loaded packs to the first famous Boulder Flat Iron (right-most feature) from Chataqua trail head. We hiked to the back-side and got on the ridge from a notch in the rock. From there, we scrambled up the multi-pitch climb via ferrata style (a new style to me). It worked well, but was a little frustrating at times since your speed of ascent was completely dependent on the ascent speed of the person ahead and behind you (both of whom were typically out of view and hearing range). It was good practice on patience and team work. Once to the top we rappelled off the back side, and ran back down.... a fun and speedy descent. Back to the cars, we traded our climbing gear for biking gear and biked to Marshal Mesa and Dowdy Draw. We didn't have a long time to bike, but we covered some mileage and made the most of it. All in all, a fun day with some new friends. |
